Using Ports and Joints to Compose Virtual Prototypes of Mechatronic Systems in VR Environment

Nowadays, virtual prototyping helps the development of modern products in many ways. However, the increasing complexity of modern mechatronic products brings a great challenge to their virtual prototyping design. Especially, it becomes nearly impossible to compose the multi-disciplinary components into a mechatronic system in virtual environments. In order to resolve that problem, this paper presents a solution, which uses the conceptual models of ports and joints to realize the system composition of mechatronic systems in VR environment. Additionally, the ports and joints based matching conditions can further enhance the virtual prototyping processes by providing a guidance of interaction.
